Eagles fall to Knights in Season Opener

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team opened its 2022-23 season with a challenge. The Eagles hosted Wartburg College, who was receiving votes in the D3hoops.com preseason Top 25 poll. Wartburg's three-point shooting was what made the difference, as they rolled to a 101-68 win over the Eagles on Tuesday night in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wartburg (1-0) used its three-point shooting to build a 25-14 lead in the opening quarter. Edgewood College (0-1) shot well in the opening quarter, knocking down two three pointers and going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Wartburg finished the first quarter shooting 46.7 percent from three-point range (7-for-15).  

- The Knights took a 52-29 lead into the break. The biggest scoring run from Wartburg came with 3:53 in the second period, at 12 points.

- Wartburg would continue to make things difficult by knocking down nine more three-pointers in the final two quarters. The Knights largest lead came at 42 with 8:40 in the fourth period. Edgewood College went on a 17 to 6 run through the end of the fourth period, highlighted by five points from Kate Gunderson.

- Kallie Norby led the Eagles with a career-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Norby added five rebounds and a career-best four blocks. Eden Bonser recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists on the night. Kenzie Senffner notched a career-high 12 points, going 4-for-9 from the floor and connecting on 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Emma Raupp added a career-best 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting. Freshman Gunderson played well in her first outing as an Eagle, recording seven points and four assists.

- Wartburg was led by Sara Faber who scored 27 points, dished out eight assists, and pulled down five rebounds. Jaedon Murphy and Britney Young each recorded double digit points.
