OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team fell short in a close contest with No. 22 UW-Oshkosh Tuesday evening. Despite taking a five-point lead over the Titans in the third period, the Eagles fell 81-71 at Oshkosh. Paige Banks and Kenzie Senffner led the Eagles attack, both recording career-best performances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-2) playing for just the second time this season held the lead twice on Tuesday. The Eagles, were perfect from the three-point line (6-of-6) in the second half of action, three makes in both the third and fourth period.
- After the first two periods, UW-Oshkosh (4-0) led 36-29. The Titans shot well in the first two periods, connecting on 13-of-29 from the floor. Edgewood College was especially on target from three-point range, shooting 50 percent (4-of-8) from long.
- Coming out of the break Edgewood College went on an 18-6 run and took a 47-42 lead with 3:54 on the clock. Ultimately, UW-Oshkosh would regain a four-point lead (51-47) heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
- Both teams recorded their highest scoring period in the final 10 minutes, with the Titans knocking down 30 points and the Eagles 24 points in a fast paced, back-and-forth quarter. The Eagles stayed within single digits before the Titans pulled away with 2 minutes remaining.
- Banks led the Edgewood College attack with a career-best 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor and 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Banks also pulled down four rebounds and dished out two assists. Senffner was on fire from three-point range, knocking down 5-of-6 and totaling 17 points, a career-best. Kallie Norby and Eden Bonser added 11 points each. Vivian Guerrero pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and collected six points. Emma Klein led the Eagles with five assists.
- The Eagles finished the contest shooting 71.4 percent from three-point range, going down as the best in the Edgewood College record books. Edgewood College finished shooting 46.8 from the floor and 60 percent from the charity stripe.
THE OPPOSITION
- UW-Oshkosh improved to 4-0 on the season behind double-digit scoring from Sarah Hardwick (19 points), Allison Forney (12 points), Kennedy Osterman (11 points), and Avery Poole (10 points). Hardwick pulled down 11 rebounds for the Titans, while three different players dished out two assists.
- The Titans found most of their success from close range, scoring 50.8 percent from the floor and 34 points in the paint.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The last time the Eagles led against UW-Oshkosh after halftime was in a 60-51 win on December 10, 2010. The Eagles last led against UW-Oshkosh 4-2 in the opening minutes of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, March 6.
