MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team dropped their conference opener, 73-60 against Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday night. The Eagles couldn't hold off the Cougars attack, allowing four Cougars to score in double-digits. Edgewood College managed to reduce the Concordia Chicago lead to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-5, 0-1 NACC) led by one point, 9-8 early in the first period, but consistent shooting from Concordia Chicago (4-3, 3-0 NACC) took hold. The Cougars went on a 11-2 run to end the first quarter with an eight-point (19-11) lead.
- The Cougars continued to roll in the second quarter, shooting 60 percent (9-of-15) from the floor and 40 percent (2-of-5) from three-point range. A 20-point second quarter from Concordia Chicago gave them a convincing 39-22 lead at halftime.
- Edgewood College saw their best shooting come in the final two periods, as they outscored Concordia Chicago 20-18 and 18-16 through the final two periods.
- The best scoring run for Edgewood College came with 1:34 on the clock in the fourth period. Six straight points from Eden Bonser, a free throw from Auto Thomas, and jumper in the pain from Sydney Ignoffo brought the Eagles within 10 points of the Cougars.
- The difference maker in the contest came in rebounding. Concordia Chicago collected 50 rebounds, 15 of them coming on the offensive side of the court. Edgewood College only managed 37 rebounds, 31 of those defensive.
- Kallie Norby led Edgewood College with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Norby added a team-high eight rebounds and dished out two assists. Paige Banks was the second Eagle to finish in double-digits, recording 13 points. Banks pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Norby and Vivian Guerrero each recorded three blocks each. Emma Klein added four rebounds and four assists on the evening.
THE OPPOSITION
- Katherine Benes led the Cougars with 23 points and four assists. Alexis Desjarlait knocked down 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Melia Peery (12 points) and Jaylene Wade (10 points) joined their teammates in double-figure scoring. Alisyn MacGregor pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds.
- The Cougars shot the ball well from beyond the arc, connecting on 12-of-30 (40 percent) from three-point range. From the floor, Concordia Chicago finished with a 39.2 percent shooting percentage.
