MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team faced their third nationally ranked opponent of the season in UW-Whitewater on Tuesday evening. The Eagles fell 69-57 to the No. 4 ranked Warhawks despite leading by three points after the first ten minutes of action. Paige Banks continued to be a staple for the Eagles, recording her first double-double of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-4) proved that their record does not reflect their level of play in the first quarter on Tuesday. The Eagles went on a 11-0 run through the middle of the first period and took an eight-point lead (17-9) over No. 4 UW-Whitewater (5-0).
- UW-Whitewater came into the second quarter determine to take back the lead, scoring 24 points and taking a 38-25 advantage into halftime. The Eagles only scored eight points in the second period, while the Warhawks went on a 13-point scoring run, their largest of the contest.
- Coming out of halftime, UW-Whitewater went on a 14-10 run and solidified a 17-point lead, the most up to that point in the game. Edgewood College would go on to collect their game-high 24 points in the third quarter and diminish the Warhawks lead to just five points (54-49) at the end of the quarter.
- With 7:10 left in the contest, a three-pointer from Kenzie Senffner brought the Eagles within one point (54-53) of the Warhawks. Ultimately, the Eagles would only score eight points through the final ten minutes and connect on 2-of-15 from the floor while UW-Whitewater recorded double-digits in all four frames. A 15-4 run was all the Warhawks needed to continue their winning streak.
- Banks led the Eagles attack with 14 points. The junior also pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds in her first career double-double. Senffner recorded an impressive 13 points, connecting on 3-of-4 from three-point range. The sophomore dished out a game-high six assists.
- Edgewood College saw their best shooting come in the first and third periods, recording 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the floor in both quarters. Both the Eagles and Warhawks finished the game with a 37.3 shooting percentage, while the Eagles recorded a 46.2 shooting (6-of-13) shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
