Eagles fall to No. 8 Trine at Cameron Classic

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team played their second ranked opponent of the week on Friday, falling to host No. 8 Trine University at the Cameron Hospital Classic. The Eagles put up a battle against the Thunder, staying within single digits until the end of the third period.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-3) played some stellar defense early just three games into the season, holding Trine (2-1) to just 11 points through the first period. The Eagles scored just five points through the first ten minutes, but held the Thunder to just 27.78 percent shooting (5-of-18).

- The Eagles scoring finally got going in the second period, as they added 15 points before halftime and only trailed the Thunder by four points (24-20) after 20 minutes of action. Paige Banks recorded six points in the second period, while Eden Bonser was just behind with five points of her own.

- Although Edgewood College recorded their best shooting percentage (50) in the third period, Trine began to pull away with the lead. The Thunder went on a 14-4 run through the middle of the period.

- Ultimately, Trine solidified their double-digit lead with 4:12 left on the clock in the fourth period and never looked back. Trine recorded their best shooting in the final ten minutes, connecting on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and 10-of-17 from the floor.

- Banks led the Eagles attack with 15 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the floor. Banks pulled down four rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded two steals. Bonser added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Vivian Guerrero pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and collected eight points.

- Sam Underhill recorded a 14-point, 12 rebound double-double for the Thunder. Sidney Wagner added 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.

- The Eagles led the Thunder in shooting percentage from the floor (43.1), three-point range (31.3), and from the charity stripe (50). The difference maker in the contest was points off turnovers and second chance points. Trine led both of these categories, with 18 points off turnovers and 21 second chance points. Edgewood College recorded just eight points off turnovers and three second chance points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles held the Thunder to their lowest scoring contest of the season. Trine, typically a high scoring attack, averaging 43 percent shooting from the floor in the 2021-22 season and 71.8 points per game, shot just 38.9 (28-of-72) percent from the floor on Friday night.

- All time, Trine leads Edgewood College 2-1 in the series. The Eagles and Thunder played for the first time in the 2012-13 season.
