Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Falk breaks school single-match solo blocks record as Eagles take down Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad wrapped up their three-game Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference week on Saturday. They traveled to face the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. The Eagles (11-7, 6-1 NACC) fired off the blocks on route to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of the Scarlet Hawks (12-6, 4-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first frame and never looked back. A 5-1 rally pushed them to a 17-7 advantage that effectively clinched the first set in their favor.

- The Eagles started the second set how they ended the first with a 5-1 sprint. Edgewood College would never lead by less than three in the frame. The Scarlet Hawks found some momentum towards the end of the period with a 5-1 sprint to close within 24-20, but an Abbey Falk kill blunted their momentum and claimed the set.

- A 4-2 Illinois Tech run put them ahead 5-4 to start the third and final frame. The Eagles replied with a 9-2 burst and would never lead by less than three for the rest of the set. The Scarlet Hawks hung around but couldn't find the extra gear they needed to keep the match alive as Edgewood College claimed their second straight 25-20 set.

- Falk recorded eight total blocks, tying her career high and setting her 2022 season high. She also posted seven solo blocks.

- Abigail Hoffmann hit .357 on 28 attacks in the sweep. She earned a double-double with 11 kills and 10 assists.

- Lea Bunch posted 15 digs while Taylor Salmon had 17 assists.

- The Eagles outhit Illinois Tech .178 to .009 and posted 35 kills to their 24.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Falk's seven solo blocks set the single match record for the Eagles, breaking the record previously set by Ali Stifter in a match at Marian on October 20, 2004. Her eight total blocks are also the second-most of any player in a three-set match this season at the Division III level. Edgewood College's 10 solo blocks as a team was good for third all-time on the school's single match list.

- Edgewood College is now 3-1 against the Scarlett Hawks since 2018.

- The victory was the sixth straight NACC victory in a row for the Eagles
