Eagles NACC Winning Streak Snapped at Aurora

AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team saw its five-game NACC winning streak come to an end Wednesday, falling 95-75 at Aurora University. The Eagles are now 5-2 in league play, one of three teams in the conference with just two conference setbacks.

SPARTANS 95, EAGLES 75
- The Eagles (6-8, 5-2 NACC) led for much of the first 13 minutes, which included a 28-25 lead with 8:18 left before halftime. That is when Aurora (4-9, 3-4 NACC) would take over, closing the half on a 23-7 run to take a 48-35 advantage into the break.

- The Eagles would get no closer than 11 in the second half. Aurora began the half on a 13-5 run, continuing its momentum from the end of the first half in building a 20-point advantage at 61-41. The Spartans shot 52.9 percent (36-for-68) for the game, including a 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from 3-point range.

- The Eagles shot decent on Wednesday, making 45 percent (27-for-60) from the floor, but 26 Edgewood College turnovers proved costly. Aurora committed 17 turnovers themselves, but the big different in the game was points off turnovers, with the Spartans winning that category, 35-8.

- Eli Hartjes and Jake Schroeckenthaler continued to pace the Eagles, combining for 33 points and 20 rebounds. Schroeckenthaler finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds. Hartjes added 17 points and nine rebounds, while going 5-for-5 from the foul line. He led the nation in free throw shooting coming into the game and is now at 98.3 percent for the season.

- Aurora was balanced in the win with five players finishing in double figures. Shamar Pumphrey flirted with a triple-double, leading the Spartans in points (19), rebounds (9), and assists (9). Terreon Hopkins (15), Nathan Yockey (13), Julian Gatewood (12), and Justin Wilson (12) all finished in double figures as well for the Spartans. Gatewood and Wilson came off the bench and helped Aurora finish with a 41-23 edge in bench points.

- The Eagles finished the game with 15 assists with Caden Nelson recording a team-best five. Hartjes added four and Avery Lyons added three. Jake Dimovski scored a season-best six points off the bench for the Eagles. Starters Adam Baierl and Nelson had eight and seven points, respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The NACC standings are tight at the top as the Eagles (5-2) are now one of three teams with two losses, joining St. Norbert (7-2) and Wisconsin Lutheran (7-2). Concordia Chicago (6-3) and Benedictine (5-3) are close by as the next eight teams in the standings have between three and five league losses.
