PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team struggled to slow down the Lakeland University attack on Saturday night, falling 79-70. The Eagles brought the game within two points with just 1:01 left on the clock, but strong free-throw shooting from the Muskies was too much in the end.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lakeland University (8-8, 4-5 NACC) led 41-30 at halftime, shooting 46.88 percent (15-for-32) through the first 20 minutes. The Muskies shot 100 percent (11-for-11) from the floor in the second half, which proved to be too much for the Eagles.
- With just 4:19 left in the second period the Eagles went on an 11-0 run to bring the Muskies within two-points (72-70). The Muskies were hot from the charity stripe and ultimately took the win on seven straight free throws made.
- Edgewood College (6-9, 5-3 NACC) were solid offensively, especially in the second half, shooting 44.12 percent (15-for-34) from the floor and 45.45 percent (5-for-11) from three-point range.
- Adam Baierl scored 17 points to pace the Eagles, shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 6-for-8 from the floor. Eli Hartjes added a 16-point, 13 rebound double-double. Jake Schroeckenthaler recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Caden Nelson notched 11 points and four assists.
THE OPPOSITION
- Five Muskies ended the game in double-digit scoring. Cam Jaeger and Tylan Huff both led Lakeland University with 18 points, Jequan Pegeese wasn't far behind with 13 points of his own. Kai Buliox added 12 points, while Matt Sechman added 11 points and followed his scoring up with 11 rebounds for a double-double.
