WHEATON, Illinois – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team battled Lake Forest College on Saturday morning in a neutral site matchup played in Wheaton, Illinois. The Eagles began the day with wins in two-of-three doubles matches, but couldn't carry that momentum over to singles play, resulting in a 5-4 Foresters victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The No. 2 doubles team of
Alyssa Carew and
Ellie Murphy and the No. 3 duo of
Alina Tweet and
Maddy Coopmans picked up wins to help the Eagles start the day with a 2-1 advantage. Tweet and Coopmans had little trouble in an 8-2 victory, while Carew and Murphy rolled to an 8-5 win.
- The other doubles match was a close one, needing a tiebreaker to decide the winner. The Foresters would gain the win in the tiebreak to avoid falling behind 3-0 before singles play.
- Lake Forest won 4-of-6 in singles play to rally for the 5-4 victory. The Eagles got an easy win at No. 1 singles from
Cecile Fuchs. She gained a 6-1, 6-1 victory, winning for the second-straight day.
- The other singles win came from Coopmans in the No. 5 bout. She posted a 6-4, 6-4 win.

- After three-straight road matches to start the season, the Eagles are ready for the 2021-22 home opener. Edgewood College will host UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Quann Park.
