Penalty Kicks down Eagles in non-conference tilt

WINONA, Minn. – Senior Edwin Aguirre put the Edgewood College Men's Soccer team on the board first, scoring in the ninth minute, but it wasn't three goals from Saint Mary's University was too much for the Eagles. Ultimately, penalty kicks were the deciding factor on Saturday as the Eagles lost to the Cardinals, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Aguirre got things going early for Edgewood College (0-2), scoring in the ninth minute off a penalty kick. Saint Mary's University (1-1) responded three minutes later, scoring the only non-penalty goal of the match. Jack Hurley sent one into the top right part of the next to tie things up at one a piece.

- Action continued back and forth until the 38th minute, when the Cardinals would take the lead, scoring their second goal on a penalty kick. Edgewood College struggled to respond and the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead into the break.

- Saint Mary's University would add one more goal in the 64th minute, once again scoring on a penalty kick.

- The Eagles offense was outshot 18-9 in the match, with the Cardinals taking 10 shots in the second half alone. Jack Gentner was crucial in his first start in goal for the Eagles, making six of his seven saves in the second half and helping to limit the offensive attack of Saint Mary's.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head to Waukesha, Wis. on Wednesday, September 8 for another non-conference match. Action against Carroll University is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Schneider stadium.
