RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team took a 2-1 lead into the break in Saturday's NACC match at Concordia University Chicago thanks to first half goals from
Tyler Nelson and
Sal Genco. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Cougars applied the pressure in the second half, scoring four times in a 4:05 stretch in a 5-2 league battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Chicago (3-2-1, 1-0-1 NACC) got its first second-half score in the 55th minute and they would go on to add one in the 56th, 57th, and 58th minutes to pull away from the Eagles. Garrett Poynter had two of the three goals, while Grayden McClellan scored the final one and assisted on two others.
- The Eagles (0-5-0, 0-2-0) came out strong with a goal 1:50 into play from Nelson.
Noah Mesdjian found Nelson for the score, resulting in Nelson's second goal of the season thus far.
- CUC tied the match in the 17th minute on a Ryan Kuhlman score but the Eagles struck once more before the break. It was Genco who struck with under five minutes left in the first half for his first goal of the season with
Kevin Espinoza picking up his first career collegiate point with the assist.
- The Eagles were outshot 13-6 for the match, including a 7-2 edge for the Cougars in the second half.
Brendon Martin made three saves for Edgewood College. Nicholas Pasut stopped two shots in getting the win for CUC.
