Eagles Extend NACC Streak with Easy Win at Alverno

MILWAUKEE – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team extended its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference winning streak to 32 matches with a convincing 9-0 win over Alverno College on Sunday morning. Edgewood College made quick work of the Inferno to improve to 2-0 in conference play this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two of the Eagles (2-4, 2-0 NACC) doubles victories were by 8-0 scores, beginning with the No. 1 duo of Ally Verbauwhede and Cecile Fuchs. Maddy Coopmans and Maeryn Shepherd played in the No. 2 doubles spot on Sunday and added an 8-0 win of their own.

- Callie Belschner and Gigi Kuecker secured an 8-2 doubles win in the No. 3 position for the Eagles as they entered singles play with a 3-0 lead.
 
- Singles play was more of the same with six straight-set wins for Edgewood College. Alyssa Carew played in the No. 1 spot on Sunday and posted a 6-0, 6-0 win. She was one of two players to not drop a point, as Ellie Murphy posted the same score in her No. 2 singles bout.

- Three Eagles posted their first career collegiate singles wins. Alina Tweet gained her first singles victory in the No. 3 match, winning 6-1, 6-2. Karina Manders added 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while Belschner posted a 6-2, 6-2 decision in the No. 5 contest.
 
- Maggie Burgmeier rounded out the Eagles lineup, winning 6-0, 6-4 in her No. 6 singles battle.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College will now go at least four years without a NACC regular season loss. The Eagles last loss in a conference regular season match came on September 16, 2017 and the Eagles won't play against until September 18.

UP NEXT
- The September 18 match will be a conference contest at Marian University at 10 a.m.
