Box Score DUBUQUE, IOWA – The Edgewood College Women's Volleyball team trailed 2-1 after three sets in the 2021 season opener at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night. After falling 26-24 in the thrilling third set, the Eagles rallied and controlled the final two sets to move their record to 1-0 in the 2021 campaign. Four Eagles posted double-doubles in the opening win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (1-0) needed a few extra points to wrap up the first set as they outlasted the Spartans, 28-26 to take a 1-0 lead. Dubuque would rebound with a 25-15 win in set two before rallying for a 26-24 win in the third set, moving the Eagles one set away from a defeat.
- Edgewood College showed its resilience by rolling in the next two sets. They won the fourth set, 25-16, before cruising in the final set, 15-7. The Eagles hit .333 in the fifth set, which matched what they hit to open the night.

Abigail Hoffmann was incredible in her first collegiate match. Not only did she post the double-double with 11 kills and 18 assists, but she hit a team-best .375.
Mackenzie Doherty hit .265 in finishing with the 13 kills.

Taylor Salmon proved to be a strong duo at the setter position. Salmon led the way with 20 assists. She added four service aces and 13 digs, finishing with a double-double in the match.

Amanda Carlson netted 11 kills for Edgewood College and 10 digs, finishing with a double-double of her own. She was one of four Eagles to finish with double-digit digs. Doherty also posted a double-double, adding 12 digs, while
Lea Bunch led all players with 21 digs in her first collegiate match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was the Eagles first season-opening win since the 2016 season. Edgewood College swept Knox College, 3-0, in the opener on September 2, 2016.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head back to Iowa this weekend for four matches at the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic. All four of the Edgewood College matches will take place at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, the first of those against Saint Mary's University (Minnesota) on Friday at 3 p.m. The Eagles will play two matches on Friday and two on Saturday this weekend.
