VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team fell to UW-Whitewater 6-1 in their season opener. The Eagles scored first, as Jonathan Gamez scored his first collegiate goal at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Soccer Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-1) scored first, finding the back of the net in the 16th minute. Noah Mesdjian connected with Gamez, perfectly placing a free kick through a flurry of Warhawk defenders. The Eagles attack would take three more shots before UW-Whitewater (1-0) responded.
- The Warhawks tied things up at one a piece in the 27th minute, as Joey Pumo found the back of the net from short range, assisted by Faizan Mohiuddin. UW-Whitewater would add two more goals before the break, as Evan Donini scored in the 40th minute, assisted by Nolan Ehlers. Jacob Mouille gave the Warhawks a 3-1 lead going into the break, with a goal off a free kick in the 44th minute.
- The Eagles managed six of their ten total shots in the second half, but struggled to find the back of the net. Gamez led Edgewood College with four shots, two on goals. Brian Root added two shots, while Mesdjian, Thomas Dews, and Sal Genco add a shot each.
- The Warhawks would add three more goals through the second half, as Alex Sykes connected in the 54th minute, Tucker Jahns in the 60th minute, and Jacob Mouille in the 63rd minute.
- Brendon Martin tallied seven saves in goal for the Eagles. Jake King earned the win for the Warhawks, making two saves through 60 minutes of action.
