MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team is heading back to the NACC Tournament Final after a Semifinal win over Wisconsin Lutheran. The Eagles earned a 6-0 sweep over the Warriors in convincing fashion Friday after dominant doubles play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (10-0, 8-0 NACC) were perfect in doubles play, dropping just six points in three matches. Ally Verbauwhede posted an 8-3 win in the No. 1 doubles slot, while Sydney Verbauwhede and Ellie Murphy were dominant at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 victory. Alyssa Carew and Kinsey Kessel rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 win to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead heading into singles action.
- Cecile Fuchs gained the first singles win with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 slot.
- Sydney Verbauwhede and Murphy finished their singles matches instantaneously, both clinching the match for the Eagles. Sydney Verbauwhede collected a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, while Murphy earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 slot.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Doubles team Sydney Verbauwhede and Murphy remain unbeaten on the season, with an 8-0 record. In addition, Sydney Verbauwhede remains perfect in singles play with a 9-0 mark. Fuchs remains undefeated in her career at No. 1 singles (9-0).
