KOHLER, Wis. – The Edgewood College and Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Tennis teams played a classic in the NACC Tournament Final on Sunday. The Eagles and Falcons went down to the final match but it was Concordia Wisconsin who pulled it out, winning 5-4 and earning the NACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (10-1) had to shuffle their lineup around as they were down one of their regulars due to injury. Still, Edgewood College was able to start the day with two wins in doubles play to take a 2-1 lead. The No. 1 team of
Cecile Fuchs and
Lydia Dean, playing together for the first time, picked up a huge 8-6 win to conclude doubles play.

Sydney Verbauwhede and
Ellie Murphy won their No. 2 doubles match more convincingly with an 8-3 victory, concluding an undefeated season for the pairing.
- In singles play,
Alyssa Carew finished up her outstanding career with a big win at No. 3 singles. Carew was playing up a position on Sunday and delivered with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Carew ended her career with 51 singles victories and 111 wins overall, tying her former teammate
Alicia Picard for fifth all time.
- The other Eagles singles win came from
Cecile Fuchs, who wrapped up her freshmen season without a loss in singles play. She rolled 6-3, 6-0 in her match.
- Two of the matches went down to a third set in singles play and CUW picked up wins in both (No. 5 and No. 6 singles) to secure the NACC Championship.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The match concludes the careers of another terrific senior class for Edgewood College.
Sydney Verbauwhede finished her career with 108 wins, seventh most in Eagles history and joining Carew with over 100 victories. Dean posted a 38-11 record in singles matches and added the huge doubles win Sunday in just her second doubles match of the season.
