NACC Champions! Women's Tennis captures third straight league title

MADISON, Wis. – In the battle of the undefeated the Edgewood College Women's Tennis team captured its third straight NACC Regular Season Championship after a 5-4 win over Concordia Wisconsin. The Eagles were dominant in singles play with four of their five wins. The victory helped Edgewood College finish the NACC Regular season with a perfect 9-0 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles saw their first win of the day come in the No. 2 doubles slot, as team Sydney Verbauwhede and Ellie Murphy earned a close 8-6 victory.

- In singles play Edgewood College (9-0, 8-0 NACC) earned four wins. Cecile Fuchs earned the 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.

- Sydney Verbauwhede earned a convincing victory (6-3, 6-2) in the No. 2 singles slot, while Ally Verbauwhede took the 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

- Ellie Murphy locked down the Eagles victory in the No. 6 singles slot with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The NACC Regular Season Championship is the eighth outright title for the Eagles and 10th overall. Edgewood College has won outright championships in 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019, and now 2021. They also won shares in 2010 and 2011.

- The Eagles now own an impressive 30 game NACC regular season winning streak.

- Doubles team Sydney Verbauwhede and Ellie Murphy remain unbeaten on the season. In addition, Verbauwhede remains undefeated in both doubles and singles play at a 15-0 combined mark. Cecile Fuchs remains undefeated in her career at No. 1 singles (8-0).

UP NEXT
- The victory over Concordia Wisconsin not only solidifies the NACC Regular Season title but also gives the Eagles the top seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament. Edgewood College will host a semifinal match on Friday, May 7.
