MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team won five-of-six in singles play to open its season with a 6-3 win over Marian University on Friday night at the Powless Tennis Center. The match was the first of the season for Edgewood College, who will play twice more this weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (1-0, 1-0 NACC) trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but dominated in singles competition on Friday night. Edgewood College won five-of-six, all five of those matches in straight sets. Included was the first singles win in the career of Cecile Fuchs, who posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.

- Fuchs and Ally Verbauwhede finished the night 2-0 as the duo also picked up a No. 1 doubles victory. They rolled to an 8-2 win in their doubles contest. Verbauwhede then cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in her No. 3 singles match.

- Sydney Verbauwhede had little trouble in her No. 2 singles match, picking up her 90th career win (singles and doubles combined) with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Alyssa Carew added a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. Carew, who has 101 total victories, is now three singles wins shy of 50 in her career.

- Lydia Dean rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles for the Eagles.

- Marian (0-4, 0-3 NACC) began the night with two wins in doubles play. The Sabres won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-6, while posting an 8-4 victory in No. 3 doubles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have won 23-straight NACC regular season matches dating back to the 2017-18 season.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will host Wartburg in a non-conference match tomorrow at Powless Tennis Center. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
