Game Recap: Baseball |

Eagles push winning streak to five with sweep of Regents

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball came back for a win in game one and received a complete-game shutout from Will Mossa in game two as the Eagles swept Rockford University on Saturday afternoon at Stampfl Field. Edgewood College trailed 8-0 before coming back for a 12-11 win in the opener and then used Mossa's gem to win game two 10-0 in eight innings.

EAGLES 12, REGENTS 11 – GAME ONE
- Rockford (6-9) scored twice in the first and six times in the second, building an early 8-0 lead in the opener. That is when Nick Holland entered the game and kept the Eagles in check. Holland entered in the second and went 6.1 innings, allowing just three earned runs with 10 strikeouts to help allow the Eagles get back in the game.

- And get back in the game the Eagles did. Edgewood College (6-9) scored a run in the second, fourth, and fifth innings before breaking out over its final three at bats. The Eagles plated three in the sixth and took the lead with a four-run seventh inning.

- Rockford would answer back in the top of the eighth with three runs of their own to go up 11-10. It appeared the game would be tied at 10-10 as Edgewood College thought it doubled up a Regents runner who left third base early to end the inning on a diving catch by Connor Goodwin. Instead the umpires huddled and said the runner left after the catch, resulting in a sacrifice fly and a one-run Rockford lead.

- The Eagles didn't panic as Bryan Niznik ripped a two-RBI single in the bottom of the eight, scoring Max Orput and Cooper Holewinski. Eric Nelson then closed the door shut with a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the season. Nelson struck out two.

- Alex Prindle went 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored to lead the Eagles offensively in the opener. Niznik added three hits and drove in three. Joseph Kalafut (two hits), Kyle Sagan, Kyle Semrad, and Adam Cairo all doubled in the game, while Cairo and Orput each added two hits as well.

EAGLES 10, REGENTS 0 – GAME TWO (F/8)
- Mossa was dominant in game two as he went the distance in a complete-game shutout effort. Mossa struck out nine and allowed just four hits for his first win of the season.

- The Eagles gave the right-hander run support in the third inning with a four-run frame thanks in large part to walks from the Rockford staff. Both Prindle and Semrad drew bases loaded walks in the inning, while Prindle scored on a wild pitch.

- Semrad had the big hit of a five-run sixth inning that put the game away for Edgewood College. He roped a two-RBI double down the left field line, scoring Prindle and Sagan. The Eagles capitalized on poor Rockford defense in the sixth as all five of the runs were unearned in the frame.

- Semrad finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Prindle drove in two runs and scored twice. Nine different Eagles collected a base hit in the nightcap.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The five-game winning streak is the first for the Eagles since the 2017 season (March 29-April 2). During that streak in 2017, Edgewood College also swept Rockford at home, that sweep coming on April 1.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will remain at home with a non-conference twinbill against Benedictine on Wednesday. First pitch from "The Chuck" is set for 1 p.m.
