Eagles Swept in NACC South Doubleheader at CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Softball team was swept in a NACC South doubleheader at Concordia Chicago on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles were shut out in the opener, 9-0, before dropping game two, 15-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Chicago (10-19-1, 6-6 NACC South) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and that first inning set the tone for the rest of the day. The Cougars would add a run in the third and two more in the fourth in the 9-0 victory in game one. Holly Bathje tossed a shutout for the Cougars, limiting the Eagles to four hits.

- Four different Eagles (9-23, 1-11 NACC South) collected singles in the opener in Jenna Sanchez, Haylee Kasuboski, Analiese Glawe, and Mackenzie Doherty.

- Game two saw the Eagles jump out to 3-0 lead thanks in large part to three Concordia Chicago errors in the top of the first inning. Lauren Ludvigsen added an RBI single in the frame, driving in Morgan Koss. Ludvigsen and Sanchez each collected two hits to pace the Edgewood College offense in the nightcap.

- The Cougars responded quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the first. CUC would plate multiple runs in each of its at bats in game two, plating four in the second, two in the third, and four more in the bottom of the fourth. CUC outhit the Eagles, 17-9, in the second contest.

- Hailey Howard was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in game two with a home run, four runs scored, and three RBI. Isabel Ortiz added a roundtripper of her own for the Cougars, while Alexis Hilgert collected three hits and drove in two in three at bats.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will look to break out of their current slump with a home doubleheader against Rockford on Saturday at Ceniti Park. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
