MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood College Softball team went on the road Sunday to take on Aurora in a NACC twinbill. The Spartans used some big innings in each game to sweep Edgewood College, the first game a 9-1 final and the second an 8-2 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As was the case when these two teams met on Saturday, the Spartans (25-3, 10-2 NACC) pitching was a big factor on Sunday. Hannah Tomasko went the distance in the first game, while Courtney Rickard threw a complete-game in the second contest.
- The Eagles (9-21, 1-9 NACC) struck first in both games. In the opener
Analiese Glawe singled in
Jenna Sanchez to put Edgewood College up 1-0 in the top of the second. The Spartans answered with two runs in the bottom of the second before breaking the game open with a seven-run third.
- Game two saw Edgewood College go up 1-0 in the first inning as
Emily Bloomfield drove in
Haylee Kasuboski with a sacrifice fly. Aurora answered with a run in the bottom half, but the Eagles took the lead back in the top of the third when Bloomfield drove in
Mackenzie Doherty with an RBI double.
- The Spartans big inning came in the third in the game two as they scored four times to take a 5-2 lead. Aurora would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the third.
- Bloomfield finished game two with two RBI and the double, while
Morgan Koss collected two hits.
- The two-through-four hitters for Aurora did the damage for the Spartans in the second game. Josie Lytton, Lexie Rayborn, and Aly Teixeira combined for eight hits, three RBI, and three runs scored.
