VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Softball team played its first games since April 2 on Wednesday, hosting Concordia University Chicago for a NACC South doubleheader. The Eagles showed some rust with their first games in 12 days, dropping both against the Cougars. CUC won the opener, 9-6, before taking the nightcap, 13-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (9-17, 1-5 NACC) went back-and-forth with the Cougars for much of game one, taking a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning. The Eagles built that lead thanks to home runs by
Emily Bloomfield and
Hanna Fisher. Bloomfield launched a solo shot in the second, while Fisher blasted a two-run home run in the fifth to put Edgewood College up two.
- Concordia Chicago (5-16-1, 2-4 NACC) responded with a four-run sixth inning, which included a three-RBI double off the bat of Gina Westphal. The Cougars would add two runs in the seventh before Edgewood College plated a run of its own in the bottom half.
- Fisher finished the opener with two hits, adding a double to her two-run home run. She drove in two and scored twice to pace the Eagles offense.
Morgan Koss added two hits, including a two-run single in the fourth inning.
- Bloomfield got the start in the circle and lasted 4.1 innings before
Analiese Glawe took over. Glawe struck out four batters over 2.2 innings as the pitcher of record.
- In game two, the Cougar bats stayed hot, defeating the Eagles 13-5 in six innings. Edgewood College led 2-1 after two innings of play before Concordia Chicago put up crooked numbers in each of its final four at bats of the game.
-
Haylee Kasuboski led the Edgewood College offense with two hits. Koss and
Lauren Ludvigsen doubled in the game, while Ludvigsen also got the start in the circle for Edgewood College.
