Muskies take two from Eagles in NACC opener

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team dropped a pair of games against Lakeland University on Sunday. The Eagles dropped the first conference doubleheader of the season after falling against the Muskies by scores of 9-6 and 11-2. Edgewood College struggled to keep up with the Muskies pitching staff in game one, and saw errors prove costly in game two.

MUSKIES 9, EAGLES 6 – GAME ONE
- Edgewood College (6-13, 0-2 NACC) mounted a comeback in game one, as Bryan Niznik and Kyle Sagan both sent home runs over the left field fence in the ninth inning. Despite a strong offensive attack, the Eagles couldn't erase the Muskies six run lead.

- The Muskies got off to a 3-0 lead after two innings, scoring two runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth frame.

- Jacob Slonim and Sagan finished 2-for-4 at the plate for the Eagles, with Slonim scoring the Eagles first run of the game for the Eagles with a solo home run in the sixth inning.

- Overall the Eagles were outhit 11-6 by Lakeland University (6-6, 2-0 NACC). Nathan Hemmerling and Collin Schutz added home runs for the Muskies, while Oaklee Spens went 3-for-5 at the plate, adding three runs batted in.

- Will Mossa notched seven strikeouts on the mound for the Eagles. Through six innings pitched, Mossa only allowed on earned run.

- Tyler Penny picked up the win for the Muskies, while Mason Pechy struck out 10 batters and only allowed on hit and one earned run through six innings on the mound.

MUSKIES 11, EAGLES 2 – GAME TWO
- In game two the Eagles struggled to plate runs, scoring once in the seventh inning and again in the eighth on singles from Kyle Semrad and Sagan.

- The Muskies offense was on point, notching nine hits and taking advantage of multiple errors from the Eagles defense. Dylan Penny and Hunter Frisk went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Muskies, as Nathan Hemmerling scored three runs.

- Sagan led the Eagles offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run, and driving in a run. Alex Prindle added two hits for Edgewood College.

- Conner Dunfee and Kyle Jungers split time on the mound for the Eagles, combining for five strikeouts.

- Peyton Domangue earned the win for the Muskies, striking out eight batters and only allowing one earned run through 7.2 innings pitched.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will have a quick turnaround as they host Lakeland on Monday. Doubleheader action is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Stampfl Field in Verona, Wis.
