MADISON, Alabama – The Edgewood College Baseball team rebounded nicely in the nightcap of two neutral site non-conference contests played Saturday at Toyota Field. After falling 9-4 against Maryville College, the Eagles posted a 9-4 victory over Huntingdon for their first win of the 2021 season.
EAGLES 9, HAWKS 4
- The Eagles (1-4) used a five-run third inning in jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the victory.
Connor Goodwin delivered a two-RBI single in the frame, while
Bryan Niznik and
Alex Prindle added run-scoring hits as well.
- The Hawks got back into it and cut the lead to 5-4 in the seventh inning. Goodwin made the defensive play of the game, however, to keep the Eagles in the lead as he gunned down the tying run at the plate to end the seventh inning and keep Edgewood College in the league.

Adam Cairo built off the momentum of Goodwin's throw by tripling to lead off the top of the eighth, and scoring on an RBI single by
Kyle Sagan. Sagan finished the game with two hits and three RBI, adding to his monster day as he had three hits and two RBI in the first game. Cairo had a big second game for the Eagles with three hits and three runs scored.
- Edgewood College would add three insurance runs in the ninth, the last two on a triple off the bat of Sagan.

Conner Dunfee picked up his first collegiate win with 6.1 strong innings for the Eagles. He struck out four and allowed four earned runs.
Garrett Redner,
Leo Stone, and
Eric Nelson closed out the game for the Eagles with 2.2 scoreless frames. Nelson pitched the ninth and struck out one.
SCOTS 9, EAGLES 4
- Maryville opened up the day with a 9-4 win over Edgewood College. The Scots led 5-4 after five innings of play but used two-run innings in the sixth and eighth frames to put the game away.

Joseph Kalafut had a big game at the plate in the opener, adjusting well to his move into the leadoff position in the lineup. Kalafut went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth inning, which brought the Eagles within one at the time.
- Sagan went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Eagles, who finished with eight hits as a team. Maryville tallied 14 hits.

Will Mossa took the loss, working 5.1 innings. Redner tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, while
Peyton Henry and Stone made appearances as well. Damian Lusby got the win with six innings of work for Maryville and Tommy Musuras earned the save with three scoreless frames.
