VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Soccer team battled Marian University into double overtime Sunday afternoon. The Eagles capitalized early in the first half, but fall to the Sabres with just six seconds left in the second overtime period for a 2-1 final.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-1, 2-1 NACC) were outshot 38-10 in the match but went to overtime thanks to the great play of goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer. Wildeboer stopped 17 shots, six coming in the second half and one in each overtime period.
- With just six seconds left in double overtime, Ashley Welk found the back of the net for Marian University (1-2, 1-2 NACC), giving the Sabres their second goal and the win. Lillian Giron scored the Sabres first goal, connecting in the 52nd minute of action.
- The Eagles lone goal came in the 33rd minute, as Mandy Fitzgerald scored her first goal as an Eagle, expertly converting a pass from Carolyn Evers.
- Fitzgerald led the Eagles with five shots, putting three on goal. Anja Von Klopp took three shots for the Eagles, each of them on goal.
