Eagles break out bats in nightcap, split twinbill at Dominican

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Edgewood College Baseball team had the bats working in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Dominican University on Wednesday. After dropping game one, 11-1, the Eagles scored a 12-10 win in game two to secure the split against the Stars.

GAME TWO – EAGLES 12, STARS 10
- The offense was the story in game two, but the Eagles (2-9) needed its defense to get the final three outs to hold on for the 12-10 win. Eric Nelson picked up the save and stranded the bases full of Stars in the final inning with a game-clinching strikeout to send the Eagles home with a split.

- Three big innings resulted in 11 of the Eagles 12 runs in the nightcap. That included a five-run fifth inning which put Edgewood College up 11-5 at the time. The Eagles also scored three runs in both the top of the first and second frames, but Dominican did post a five-run frame of their own in the bottom of the first.

- Jacob Slonim blasted a two-run home run in the top of the first, putting the Eagles up 3-0. Slonim finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Kyle Sagan put the Eagles on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double, plating Joseph Kalafut. Kalafut went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI and Sagan finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

- Cooper Holewinski added two hits for the Eagles and was one of four Eagles to double in the contest joining Sagan, Max Orput, and Adam Cairo. As a team, Edgewood College belted out 13 hits in the game two victory.

- Nick Holland got the win on the mound, throwing four innings of relief, allowing four earned. Nelson picked up his first save of the season with his scoreless ninth.

GAME ONE – STARS 11, EAGLES 1 (F/8)
- Game one was a pitcher's duel until the Stars (3-5) erupted for nine runs over their final two at bats in the seventh and eighth innings. Dominican led 2-1 until scoring four runs in the seventh and ending the game with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

- The Eagles lone run was scored in the top of the first when Slonim tripled in Kalafut. Kalafut went 2-for-4 at the plate and Holewinski added two hits, including a triple of his own.

- Hayden Young of Dominican picked up the win with a complete-game effort. He struck out seven and scattered seven hits, while allowing just the one run.
