VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Soccer team started its "2020" season with a 2-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Sunday at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Park. The Eagles scored both goals in the second half and
Grace Wildeboer totaled seven saves in picking up the shutout win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-0, 1-0 NACC) got on the board with the first career goal from
Marley Satran in the 51st minute.
Anja Von Klopp set up Satran with a perfect pass and the freshman finished with her left foot, scoring her first goal in her first collegiate match.
- The Eagles had to play most of the second half down a player due to a red card early in the second half. They fought through that and kept the Warriors off the scoreboard with a tremendous team effort. Wildeboer finished with seven saves in the shutout.
-
Cassidy Kloos added an insurance goal for Edgewood College in the 83rd minute. The goal came off a corner kick from
Siobhan Gallagher, who was credited with an assist on the play.
- The Eagles and Warriors each totaled 10 shots in the match as defense was the story throughout, especially in the first half. Lauren Butler totaled three saves for Wisconsin Lutheran in the setback.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win was the Eagles first in a season opener since the 2015 season. Edgewood College defeated Beloit College, 4-1, in the 2015 opener.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will host Alverno in a NACC match on Wednesday, March 24 at 4 p.m. at Edgewood College Field.
