Eagles split slugfests at Alverno

MILWAUKEE – The Edgewood College Softball team traded victories in a pair of slugfests at Alverno Sunday in non-conference play. The Eagles opened the day by holding on for a 12-9 win in the opener, before falling in walkoff fashion in game two, 10-9.

GAME ONE – EAGLES 12, INFERNO 9
- Edgewood College (6-10) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opener thanks in large part to a five-run third inning. Jenna Sanchez started the party in the third inning with a solo blast to left field. Sanchez finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, a double and the home run in the third inning.

- The Eagles led throughout the opener and took a 9-3 lead into the seventh inning. They would go up 12-3 after batting in the top half, plating three more runs which included a solo home run from Emily Bloomfield.

- The Inferno would not go away quietly, scoring six times in the bottom of the seventh, five of those coming via home runs. The big hit in the inning was by Izzy Torres, who launched a grand slam. A few batters later, Andrea Ramirez homered to bring Alverno within three, but the Eagles would get the final out and escape with the three-run win.

- Edgewood College collected 16 hits in game one and six different Eagles had multiple hits. Sanchez led the way and Hanna Fisher, Lauren Ludvigsen, Morgan Koss, Analiese Glawe, and Mackenzie Doherty all added two hits each. Koss, Sanchez, and Mackenzie Hoffman all scored twice for the Eagles.

- Bloomfield went four innings and earned the win in the circle and Glawe recorded her third save of the season. The duo combined for five strikeouts.

GAME TWO – INFERNO 10, EAGLES 9
- Big innings were the story of game two and unfortunately Alverno had the last big inning of the game. Trailing 9-7, Alverno walked it off with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Torres won the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Sara Jankowski and earning Alverno the split.

- The Eagles had two big innings in the game, scoring three times in the first and five times in the sixth, while adding a run in the top of the seventh. Alverno evened the score at 3-3 with three in the second inning and the Inferno took their first lead of the day with a four-run fourth inning, before the Eagles five-run sixth gave them the lead back.

- Edgewood College tallied 11 more hits in the nightcap, including home runs by Fisher and Sanchez, her second of the day. Sanchez again was incredible at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, a double, and the home run. Haylee Kasuboski had a strong game as well with two hits, three runs scored and a double. Doherty added a double for the Eagles.

- The Inferno hit three home runs of their own in game two. Zimri Lemonds led the way at the dish with one of the home runs and four RBI.
