ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Edgewood College Softball team opened up NACC play with a doubleheader at Dominican University Saturday afternoon. Despite playing at Dominican, the Eagles were the home team on the scoreboard for both games, and ended up with a split, taking game one 5-4, before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.
EAGLES 5, STARS 4
- Edgewood College (5-5, 1-1 NACC) got rolling right away in the opener with a two-run first inning.
Haylee Kasuboski tripled in
Hanna Fisher to put the Eagles on the board and then
Emily Bloomfield brought in Kasuboski with an RBI single, making the score 2-0.
- The Eagles would lead throughout in the opener and received a strong starting performance from freshman
Grace Pustina. Pustina, who picked up her second win of the season, went five strong and did not allow an earned run. She struck out six in the win.
Analiese Glawe picked up the save for Edgewood College.
- Dominican did make things interesting, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh on a three-run home run by Megan McCamman. It made the insurance runs the Eagles scored in the bottom of the sixth even more important. It was
Lauren Ludvigsen who provided the insurance with a two-RBI double, plating both
Mackenzie Hoffman and
Mackenzie Doherty.
- Ludvigsen finished the game with two hits, including the two-run double to pace the Eagles offense. Kasuboski also collected a pair of hits, including the run-scoring triple in the first inning.
STARS 3, EAGLES 2
- The game was 1-1 heading into the seventh inning until the Stars took their first lead of the day with two runs, which included an inside-the-park home run via Lexi Breceda.
- The Eagles made a good comeback effort in the bottom of the seventh as
Emily Meyer singled in
Morgan Koss to make the score 3-2. Meyer would advance to second on a single by Doherty, but Dominican was able to escape in getting the final out, a groundout to short.
-
Emily Bloomfield turned in a quality start for Edgewood College, throwing a complete game and surrendering three earned runs with three strikeouts. Molly Stuhr went the distance for Dominican, striking out three as well.
- Ludvigsen had another two hits to pace the Edgewood College offense. She started the scoring as well with an RBI bunt single, scoring Fisher, who led off the bottom of the first with a triple.
