PEORIA, Ill. – The Edgewood College Softball team wrapped up its 2021 opening weekend with two non-conference wins against Mount Mary University at the MMU Collegiate Slugger Series on Friday morning. The Eagles earned the sweep over the Blue Angels, taking game one in five innings, 8-0, and game two, 4-3.
GAME ONE (EAGLES 8, MOUNT MARY 0, F/5)
- The Eagles (2-2) wasted little time getting things rolling on Friday, putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning in the opener. Emily Bloomfield ripped a two-RBI double in the frame, while Jenna Sanchez, Kirsten Dempsey, and Mackenzie Hoffman added run-scoring hits for Edgewood College.
- The Eagles would add two runs in the third and finished the game off with an RBI double by Analiese Glawe in the bottom of the fifth, enforcing the eight-run rule. Edgewood College finished the contest with 10 hits, including five doubles.
- Bloomfield had two of the Eagles five doubles, finishing the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sanchez went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored for Edgewood College, while Dempsey added a double and two hits as well.
- Grace Pustina picked up her first career win in the circle, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings. Glawe came in during the top of the fifth and got out of the inning with two outs. Pustina allowed just three hits and struck out three.
GAME TWO (EAGLES 4, MOUNT MARY 3)
- Dempsey was on fire in game two, getting the Eagles bats going in the second inning with her first home run as an Eagle. Dempsey sent the ball over the fence in right center, scoring two and giving Edgewood College a 2-1 lead.
- The Eagles would add runs in both the third and fifth frames to lead Mount Mary 4-3 in the end.
- Bloomfield led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-3 and drawing a walk. Lauren Ludvigsen and Hoffman also added hits for the Eagles.
- Bloomfied picked up her first win of the season, throwing four innings for the Eagles. Glawe again came in for three innings, earning a strike out and only allowing one hit.

- The Eagles will head to Minneapolis, Minn. to play in the Auggie Dome Games on March 5 and 6.
