Centenary Downs Eagles To Conclude Opening Weekend

JACKSON, Miss. – The Edgewood College Baseball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend with a matchup against Centenary on Sunday morning. Defensive miscues by the Eagles and a 14-hit outburst from the Gents resulted in a 15-5 setback for Edgewood College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Edgewood College responded with two runs in the top half of the second, but Centenary answered by scoring five times over its next two at-bats to extend its lead to 11-2. Cooper Holewinski delivered an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning, while Edgewood College executed a double steal as well with Alex Prindle scoring on the play. Freshman Connor Goodwin stole two bases in the top of the second.

- Holewinski finished the day with two RBI and a double for Edgewood College. Tim Kelly collected two hits in four trips, which included a double, as well as an RBI single in the fourth inning, plating Holewinski.

- Seven of the Gents runs were unearned on Sunday. Centenary did connect four 14 hits, which included home runs by John Beaudion and Brady Robinson.

- Eric Nelson delivered a scoreless eighth inning for the Eagles on the mound. He struck out one batter in his three-up-three-down inning of work.
