JACKSON, Miss. – The Edgewood College Baseball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend with a matchup against Centenary on Sunday morning. Defensive miscues by the Eagles and a 14-hit outburst from the Gents resulted in a 15-5 setback for Edgewood College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (0-3) fell behind early as Centenary scored six times in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles made three of their seven errors in the opening frame, which resulted in a couple of unearned runs scored by the Gents.
- Edgewood College responded with two runs in the top half of the second, but Centenary answered by scoring five times over its next two at-bats to extend its lead to 11-2.
Cooper Holewinski delivered an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning, while Edgewood College executed a double steal as well with
Alex Prindle scoring on the play. Freshman
Connor Goodwin stole two bases in the top of the second.
- Holewinski finished the day with two RBI and a double for Edgewood College.
Tim Kelly collected two hits in four trips, which included a double, as well as an RBI single in the fourth inning, plating Holewinski.
- Seven of the Gents runs were unearned on Sunday. Centenary did connect four 14 hits, which included home runs by John Beaudion and Brady Robinson.

Eric Nelson delivered a scoreless eighth inning for the Eagles on the mound. He struck out one batter in his three-up-three-down inning of work.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will be off until March 6 when they begin a four-game weekend in Madison, Alabama. Edgewood College will play two games on March 6 and two on March 7 at the new Toyota Field, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, a Double-A club in the Angels farm system. The March 6 games will be against Maryville and Huntingdon.
