MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team edged out Lakeland University on Saturday to remain undefeated in conference play. The Eagles earned the sweep over the Muskies with a final score of 71-65. Four Eagles scored in double-digits in the victory, as Bria Lemirande pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (8-3, 7-0 NACC) saw their best offense come in the second period of action, shooting 52.94 percent from the floor and 80 percent (4-for-5) from beyond the arc. The Eagles also took their biggest lead of the contest at 13 points (38-25) off a three-pointer from Bria Lemirande with 2:39 left on the clock in the second period.
- The Eagles struggled to maintain the Lakeland University (2-5, 1-5 NACC) offense in the third period, as the Muskies connected on 9-of-18 from the floor and cut the Eagles lead down to just two points (51-49) going into the final 10 minutes of action.
- Edgewood College was determined to earn the sweep, and solidified their lead in the fourth period after three-point makes from Bria Lemirande and Abby Shane. Ultimately the Eagles defense and solid shooting in the fourth period solidified the win.
- Bria Lemirande led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points. The junior added a career-high 17 rebounds and four assists in the win.
- Emma Klein finished with 14 points for the Eagles, collecting 10 in just the second period alone. The sophomore also added nine rebounds and three assists.
- Alyssa Lemirande also scored in double-figures, collecting 13 points and pulling down six rebounds. Paige Banks added 11 points for the Eagles, connecting on 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and adding three assists.
THE OPPOSITION
- Megan Will led the Muskies with 17 points and added six rebounds and two blocks. Kacey Gardner wasn't far behind, scoring 16 points and collecting seven rebounds and seven assists.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will look to pick up their second win of the season over Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday. Action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
