MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball remained perfect in NACC play with a convincing 69-45 win at Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night. The win moves the Eagles to 8-0 in NACC play and sets up a showdown this upcoming weekend at Wisconsin Lutheran College between the two remaining unbeaten teams in the NACC North.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (9-3, 8-0 NACC) shot the ball extremely well on Tuesday. The Eagles shot 44.1 percent from the floor, 53.3 percent from 3-point range, and 90 percent from the foul line. That included a hot start from Edgewood College, which shot 64.3 percent in the first quarter, building a 22-13 lead.
- The Falcons (8-4, 5-3 NACC) never really threatened as Edgewood College was able to get out of Mequon with its perfect NACC record intact.
- Balance was key for Edgewood College on Tuesday night as
Emma Klein led the way with 12 points, while
Paige Banks finished with 11. Klein has scored in double figures all four times she has faced the Falcons the last four years, and now has reached double figures in seven of her last eight games. Banks is starting to come into her own in her rookie season, scoring 11 points in four of her last five games.
- Seven different players finished the game with at least six points. After Klein and Banks,
Alyssa Lemirande added 10 ,
Bria Lemirande had nine, and
Abby Shane,
Diamond Pikulyk, and
Jennifer Freeman each pitched in with six.
-
Bria Lemirande led the Eagles to a dominating performance on the boards. Lemirande, who led the NACC entering play with 11.4 rebounds per game, added 13 on Tuesday night. The Eagles outrebounded Concordia Wisconsin, 43-24, which included 10 offensive rebounds. Pikulyk added six rebounds, while
Sydney Ignoffo secured five boards.
THE OPPOSITION
- The Eagles made things difficult for reigning NACC North Player of the Week Clara Chambers. Chambers finished the game with 10 points, but shot just 3-of-12. Emily Hafemann led the Falcons with 13 points.
UP NEXT
- The NACC North title will be on the line this weekend in Milwaukee. Edgewood College will play at Wisconsin Lutheran College twice with both teams entering with 8-0 league records. A sweep for either team would secure the regular season title outright, while a split would result in co-champions. The first of those games is Friday at 7 p.m.
