Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles bounce back, secure weekend split with Muskies

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team picked up its defensive effort and put together one of its best performances of the season, rebounding for a 91-67 win at Lakeland University on Saturday. The Eagles had four players finish in double figures, while holding Lakeland to its second-lowest scoring output of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (7-6, 4-4 NACC) trailed 9-8 four minutes into play before going on a 25-5 run over the next seven minutes. That run gave Edgewood College a 33-14 lead and they ended up taking a 49-36 advantage into the break. Lakeland (6-5, 4-4 NACC) never really threatened in the second half, as the Eagles reversed roles from Friday with a convincing win on Saturday.

- The big difference in Saturday's win was the Eagles performance on the defensive end. Lakeland had scored under 70 points just once prior to Saturday's contest and the Eagles held the Muskies to 41.8 percent shooting (23-for-55) and just 26.1 percent shooting (6-for-23) from 3-point range.

- The Eagles themselves didn't shoot better from 3-point range, but they did do plenty of damage in the paint. Edgewood College scored 66 points in the paint and shot 58.5 percent (38-for-65) from the floor in the contest. They shot 62.8 percent (22-for-35) in the opening half. Lakeland had just 20 points in the paint as Edgewood College completely dominated the game inside.

- Balance was key in the win as four Eagles finished in double figures with Jake Schroeckenthaler leading the way with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Ryan Buss added 14 points, Jake Negus chipped in 13, and Jake Graf totaled 11.

- The Eagles shared the ball well on Saturday with 19 assists, three each from Negus, Avery Lyons, and Eli Hartjes. Edgewood College also committed just 10 turnovers, while Lakeland had 13.

- The win, coupled with other results from Saturday, moved the Eagles back into a tie for second place in the NACC North standings. The only difference this time is now four teams are tied for second place. Wisconsin Lutheran College has wrapped up the NACC North regular season crown with a 7-1 record, but Edgewood College, Lakeland, MSOE, and Concordia Wisconsin are all 4-4.

THE OPPOSITION
- Cam Jaeger scored 22 points and went 9-for-9 from the foul line to lead Lakeland.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will return to action next weekend with two home games against Wisconsin Lutheran. The first of those will be Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m.
