JACKSON, Miss. – The Edgewood College Baseball team opened its season on Saturday with a pair of non-conference games hosted by Belhaven University. The Eagles fell to the host Belhaven, 22-5, in the opener before falling, 13-2, in game two against Huntingdon College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Being a little rusty can be expected for a team that hasn't been able to get outside for practice yet, while playing an opponent in Belhaven who already played three games prior. Still, the Eagles saw some positives in the opener with two hits each from
Jacob Slonim and
Adam Cairo.
- Slonim went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a run scored, and a triple to lead the Eagles offense. Cairo added two hits and scored a run. The Eagles scored the last five runs of the game, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth.
-
Garrett Redner threw a scoreless third inning with two strikeouts, while
Conner Dunfee tossed two scoreless to close out the game for the Eagles. Dunfee fanned four batters in his two innings of work.
- In game two, the Eagles fell behind 3-0 after one-half inning of play but rebounded with two runs in the bottom half of the first.
Joseph Kalafut doubled in Cairo for the first win, while Kalafut came around to score on an RBI groundout from
Alex Prindle.
- The Eagles tallied five hits in game two with Slonim and Kalafut roping doubles.
UP NEXT
