Defense key, Eagles hold on for win over Muskies

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team defeated Lakeland University on Friday evening 69-49 to remain undefeated in conference play. The Eagles bounced back after a strong offensive start from the Muskies, relying on defense to earn the victory. It was a team victory, as 12 different players made their mark in the contest, with nine different players scoring for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a tight first period that saw Lakeland University (2-4, 1-4 NACC) take an early lead, and ended with the teams knotted up at 19, the Eagles came into the second period with confidence. Edgewood College (7-3, 6-0 NACC) went on a 11-2 run to start the second period. The Eagles locked down the Muskies offense, only allowing six points in the second period.

- Edgewood College took their biggest lead of the contest at 20 points (65-45), with 7:16 remaining on the clock in the fourth period. The Eagles held the Muskies to just six points in the final 10 minutes, holding on to their 20-point margin.

- A big key for the Eagles was locking down the offense of Megan Will, who, coming into the contest averaged 13.8 points per game. Edgewood College held Will to just eight points on 4-of-13 shooting from the floor.

- Three Eagles scored in double-figures on the evening. Alyssa Lemirande collected a team-high 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The senior also added six assists. Emma Klein wasn't far behind, scoring 12 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Bria Lemirande added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and perfect shooting from beyond the arc (2-for-2).

- The Eagles pulled down a total of 54 rebounds, compared to just 38 from the Muskies. In addition, the Eagles scored 40 points in the paint, while the Muskies only managed 26.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Eden Bonser finished the contest with a career-high nine points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. The freshman added another career-high four rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
- Kacey Gardner led the Muskies scoring with 11 points. Morgan Zenon wasn't far behind with nine points of her own, adding five rebounds. Megan Will collected eight points and a team-high seven rebounds on the night. Gardner dished out four assists and collected four steals.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will take on Lakeland University on Saturday. Action is set to begin from the Todd Wehr Edgedome at 5:00 p.m.
