Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Slow Start Hurts Eagles in Non-Conference Setback at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team struggled in the first half in Saturday's 78-64 setback at Coe College. The Eagles outscored the Kohawks in the second half, but it wasn't enough in the non-conference loss.

KOHAWKS 78, EAGLES 64
- Coe (7-1) jumped out to a 9-2 lead and controlled play in the opening half in building the 19-point halftime lead, 43-24. The Kohawks shot 43 percent (17-for-39) in the opening half and 50 percent (6-for-12) from 3-point range. The Eagles shot 35 percent (11-for-31) in the opening half, but also lost the turnover battle, 7-2, in the first 20 minutes.

- The second half was a much better effort for Edgewood College (0-4) as they outscored Coe, 40-35. Both Jake Schroeckenthaler and Adam Baierl scored 13 points over the final 20 minutes. Schroeckenthaler finished the game with 20 points and a career-best 13 rebounds in his double-double effort, while Baierl poured in a career-high 19 points.

- Despite the strong second half showing, Edgewood College never got closer than 12 points as Coe picked up the non-league win. Edgewood College was down two starters on Saturday, playing without Eli Hartjes and Caden Nelson.

- Dawson Hughes also scored a career-high 10 points for the Eagles, which included a 2-for-3 effort from 3-point range. Hughes was also active on the defensive end of the floor with two steals.

- Coe received a 15-point, eight-rebound effort from Jarad Kruse, one of three Kohawks to score in double figures. Jacob Robertson added 14 points, while Ray Thrapp chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday was the first time the Eagles and Kohawks played one another in Men's Basketball.

- This was the final of four-straight non-conference games to begin the season. The Eagles faced some quality competition in those contests, playing two nationally ranked (Dubuque and UW-Oshkosh) opponents and a 7-1 Coe team.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will begin conference play on Wednesday night at Concordia University Chicago. The NACC tilt between the Eagles and Cougars is set for a 7 p.m. start.
