HOLLAND, Mich. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team opened its 2021-22 with a challenge. The Eagles went on the road to take on the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Hope College, in the Hope Tip-Off Classic. Hope lived up to its top ranking with a 104-59 win over the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hope (1-0) used its pressure defense and fast paced attack to build a 39-10 in the opening quarter. Edgewood College (0-1) struggled with turnovers in the opening quarter and Hope took advantage in building the 29-point lead. The Eagles committed 14 turnovers in the first 10 minutes, while attempting just nine shots over that span.
- Hope would continue making things difficult for the Eagles as they took a 63-21 lead into the break. Edgewood College played better after the break, including outscoring the Flying Dutch, 24-21, in the third quarter.
- The Eagles committed 31 turnovers in the contest, but did force 17 Hope turnovers. After shooting just 29.2 percent (7-for-24) in the first half, Edgewood College shot 40 percent (12-for-30) in the second half. Hope was efficient in making 54.4 percent (43-for-79) from the floor for the game. Hope's advantage on the boards (43-32) and in the turnover battle (31-17) allowed them to take 25 more shots in the game.

Eden Bonser led the Eagles as the sophomore scored a career-high 13 points off the bench on 4-of-9 shooting. Bonser was 2-for-3 from 3-point range.
Molly Garrity added a pair of 3-pointers as well in her collegiate debut, finishing the game with seven points. Freshman
Vivian Guerrero added seven points as well in her first game with the Eagles.
- Hope was led by a pair of preseason All-Americans in Kennedy Schoonveld and Olivia Voskuil. Voskuil scored 15 points and had six steals in just 14 minutes. Schoonveld scored 12 points, while Savannah Feenstra had 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

- The Eagles are now 3-3 in season openers under head coach
Chaia Huff. Edgewood College won three-straight openers from 2017-2019.
- Edgewood College will challenge itself in the non-conference portion of its schedule with a few games against ranked opponents. The Eagles still have UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater on the schedule, both teams ranked in the preseason D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
- Hope has won 46-straight games. They went 29-0 in 2019-20 before the NCAA Tournament was canceled prior to the Sweet 16. Hope then went 16-0 in the shortened 2020-21 season.
