HOLLAND, Mich. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team fell short in a close defensive contest with North Central College. Ultimately, the Eagles fell 59-52 at the Hope Tip Off Classic Saturday. Abby Shane led the Eagles attack while Vivian Guerrero added her first career double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-2) playing for just the second time this season held the lead just twice on Saturday. The Eagles shooting was strongest in the third period, as they shot 42 percent from the floor and kept the Cardinals close, ending the period just five points shy, 50-45.
- Both teams struggled offensively in the second period. Neither team shooting above 32 percent. The Eagles managed to hold the Cardinals to just six points through the second period and went into the break with just a two-point deficit (26-24).

- Edgewood College came into the final two periods with stronger offense, scoring 21 in the third period and 17 in the fourth period. Despite a better second half, the Eagles couldn't bounce back from early mistakes.
- Freshman Guerrero posted the first double-double of her career, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Shane led the Eagles offensive efforts scoring 15 points, connecting on 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Eden Bonser wasn't far behind with 14 points of her own. Bonser also added four rebounds and three assists. Diamond Pikulyk added 10 points and collected five rebounds.
- The Eagles finished the contest shooting 36.1 percent from the floor. Edgewood College struggled from long range, only connecting on 5-of-25 from beyond the arc.
THE OPPOSITION
- North Central improved to 2-1 on the season behind double-digit scoring from lxChel Leeuwenburgh (16 points), Mitrese Smith (13 points), and Allison Pearson (13 points). Leeuwenburgh and Smith added double-doubles with 16 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
- The Cardinals found success from close range, scoring 36 points in the paint.
