MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team faced its toughest conference test to date as it welcomed Illinois Tech to Quann Park on Sunday. The Eagles passed the test with a 6-3 win, their 36th-straight NACC regular season victory.
EAGLES 6, SCARLET HAWKS 3
- The Eagles (6-4, 6-0 NACC) took two of three in doubles play to start the day, the first win coming from the No. 1 duo of
Cecile Fuchs and
Ally Verbauwhede. That pairing improved its record to 4-0 in league matches this season with an 8-3 victory.
- The other doubles win came from the No. 3 pairing of
Maddy Coopmans and
Alina Tweet. They edged the Scarlet Hawks (6-4, 5-2 NACC) No. 3 duo by an 8-6 score. Illinois Tech won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-6 score as well.
- Edgewood College would win 4-of-6 in singles play to close out the day. The first three results in singles were all in favor of the Eagles as they secured the conference win relatively quickly. Coopmans was the first to finish as he improved to 4-0 in NACC play with a 6-0, 7-5 win.
- Fuchs moved her conference record to 5-0 in singles matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win, while
Ellie Murphy clinched the match for the Eagles at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Murphy is now 5-0 in NACC singles bouts as well.
- The final win for Edgewood College came from
Karina Manders at No. 6 singles. She won 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) in the last match of the day to finish.
- The two Illinois Tech wins in singles play both needed a third set tiebreak as well.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is now tied for the second longest NACC regular season winning streak in women's tennis. The Eagles 36-straight wins ties Concordia Wisconsin, who won 36-straight from 2015-2018. CUW had its winning streak snapped by Edgewood College. Edgewood College also owns the longest NACC winning streak at 47 matches, which was snapped during the Falcons 36-match win streak. The two have dominated the NACC from its existence.
UP NEXT

Both teams enter with unblemished NACC records and the match will likely decide the regular season crown in 2021. The highly-anticipated match is set for a 3 p.m. start on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin.
