FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Jake Graf,
Jake Negus, and
Jake Schroeckenthaler combined for 60 points in helping lead the Edgewood College Men's Basketball team to a 93-77 win over Marian University on Sunday. The win completed a weekend sweep of Marian for the Eagles, who moved to 2-0 in NACC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (5-2, 2-0 NACC) had another great game offensively, pouring in 93 points one day after scoring 88 against the Sabres (1-2, 0-2 NACC). It was Negus and Schroeckenthaler who led the offense on Sunday, each player scoring 23 points with Graf chipping in with 14.
- For the second-straight day, the Eagles used a 13-0 run in the opening half to pull away from Marian. On Sunday, the game was tied 17-17 with 13 minutes left in the first half before the Eagles scored 13-straight points. Graf concluded the run with a 3-point make for Edgewood College.
- The Eagles would roll from that point forward, continuing to pile it on in the first half. Edgewood College went into the break with a 55-30 lead after shooting 53.5 percent from the floor in the opening half.
- Edgewood College once again dominated the boards on Sunday, out-rebounding Marian by a 45-24 margin. Schroeckenthaler finished the game with a double-double, leading all players with 11 rebounds. He accomplished the double-double in just 17 minutes on the floor as he continues to be an efficient option off the bench for the Eagles.
Ryan Buss added 10 boards for Edgewood College.
- In addition to scoring 23 points, Negus once again led the Eagles in assists with eight. The Eagles finished with 20-plus assists again on Sunday, compiling 22 as a team.
THE OPPOSITION
- Marian was led by David Britton, who scored 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting. The Eagles did lock down the reigning NACC Player of the Week, Tyler Gouin, holding him to four points on 1-of-6 shooting.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood college is 2-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2011-12 season. In 2011-12, the Eagles played their first conference game against Marian, picking up an 81-72 win before defeating Concordia University Chicago, 60-56.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will be at home next weekend for a pair of games against Concordia University Wisconsin. The first of those contests is scheduled for Friday, February 5 at 7 p.m.
