MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team moved to 3-0 in conference play on Friday after defeating Marian University 73-56 in the home-opener. The Eagles capitalized on a quick start and saw their fast-paced short game pay off as they hung on for the win. Bria Lemirande added her third double-double of the season, while Emma Klein lead the way in scoring for the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (4-2, 3-0 NACC) got off to a fast start, scoring 11 straight in the first period and leading the Sabres 29-14 through the first ten minutes of action. Bria Lemirande scored a whopping 10 points through the first period and pulled down six boards.
- The Eagles went into the locker room at the half with a 19-point lead (43-24). Despite some hot shooting from Marian University (2-1, 2-1 NACC) in the fourth period the Eagles hung on to earn the win.
- Most of the Eagles success came in the paint as they outscored the Sabres 44-20 in the short game. Edgewood College also dominated in rebounding, pulling down 46 to the Sabres 37.
- No surprise that the Eagles best shooting came in the first period, knocking down 13-of-22 from the floor for 59 percent shooting. Edgewood College held Marian University to just 33.8 percent shooting from the floor.
-Â Emma Klein scored a team-high 14 points and added four assists for the Eagles. Bria Lemirande added her third double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 boards in the first half. The junior ended the night with with 14 rebounds and 12 points.
- Lexi Walter managed 12 points for the Eagles on 6-of-10 shooting. The junior also pulled down six rebounds. Alyssa Lemirande finished with a well-rounded line, scoring 11 points, dishing out seven assists, and pulling down six boards.
THE OPPOSITION
- Paris Harris led the way for Marian University scoring a game-high 21 points, adding five rebounds and three blocks. Claire Levendoski added 10 points for the Sabres, while Morgan Johnson pulled down nine rebounds and managed five assists.
