Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lemirandes' lead way as Eagles complete weekend sweep of MSOE

MILWAUKEE – Alyssa and Bria Lemirande combined for 34 points and 19 rebounds in helping lead the Edgewood College Women's Basketball team to a 58-48 win at MSOE on Saturday night. The win completed a weekend sweep over the Raiders, as Edgewood College moved to 2-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the second straight night, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead and dominated the first quarter of play. After starting last night's game with a 19-point lead, Edgewood College built a 10-point lead after one quarter of play on Saturday night (18-8).

- The second quarter was one to forget for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0 NACC) as MSOE outscored them 17-5 to take a two-point lead into the half. Still, as great teams do, the Eagles regrouped in the second half, outscoring the Raiders, 35-23, for the 10-point victory.

- Alyssa Lemirande finished the night with a double-double, leading all players with 18 points, while leading the Eagles with 10 rebounds. Bria Lemirande added 16 points and nine rebounds as both players shot 6-for-11 from the floor.

-  MSOE stayed close in the fourth quarter, cutting the Eagles lead to 47-41 with 3:14 remaining. That is when Alyssa Lemirande drove left and finished through the contact, completing a 3-point play and putting the game out of reach.

-  On a night where they didn't shoot it well, the Eagles relied on their defense to pick up the NACC victory. They held MSOE to 32.1 percent shooting (18-for-56). The Eagles shot 38.2 percent (21-for-55) from the floor.

- Adding to the defensive theme, the Eagles threw a block party in Milwaukee on Saturday night. Edgewood College sent away eight shots with Bria Lemirande, Alyssa Lemirande, Emma Klein, and Abby Shane all blocking two shots. Klein finished the game with 11 points, joining the Lemirande's in double figures.

THE OPPOSITION
- Kayla Barreto posted a double-double for the Raiders, leading the team with 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Amy Reiser led all players with 13 boards on Saturday.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome next weekend with two games against Marian University. The first of those contests will be Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m.
