MADISON, Wis. - History was made in the Todd Wehr Edgedome Tuesday night, as Edgewood College defeated Concordia Wisconsin 77-55, setting the program record for wins in a season. The Eagles clinched the number two seed in the NACC tournament, solidifying a first-round bye. Emma Klein and Alyssa Lemirande led the Eagles offense, while Alyssa and Bria Lemirande both captured double-doubles in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (22-2, 17-2 NACC) hit the ground running in the first period, sinking five from beyond the arc. Despite strong shooting, the Eagles and Falcons traded the lead six times in the fast paced period. Ultimately, Emma Klein knocked down three from 3-point range and led the Eagles into the second period on a four point lead (23-19)
- Just five minutes into the second period Concordia Wisconsin came charging back within one point. Edgewood College buckled down, showing off their tough defense, and holding the Falcons to a 22.2 percent shooting percentage in the period. The Eagles headed into the locker room on an eight point lead (39-31).
- Coming out of the locker room, the Eagles offense went on a 9-3 run and took a 14-point lead eight different times in the second period.
- The Eagles biggest lead of the night came with 4:47 left in the fourth period, as Alyssa Lemirande connected on a jumper in the paint for the 29-point lead (75-46). The Edgewood College offense didn't let up in the final 10 minutes, shooting a game best 63.6 percent from the floor.
- On the evening, Alyssa Lemirande and Bria Lemirande both notched a double-double. Alyssa Lemirande finished with 18 points and 11 assists, while Bria Lemirande collected 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
- Emma Klein was on fire from beyond the arc, connecting on three-of-five from long and notching 18 points. The freshman also collected two blocks on the night.
- Mia Edwards pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and collected seven points.
- For just the third time this season, the Eagles finished with a shooting percentage above 50 percent (51.6 percent).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- For the first time in program history, the Women's Basketball team has reached 22 wins in a season. The Eagles now own the program record for wins and pass the 2004-05 team, who finished the season with 21 wins.
- Edgewood College solidifies the number two seed in the NACC Tournament, earning a first round bye. This will be the first bye in program history, as the NACC moved from a four-team to six-team format for the first time in the 2015-16 season.
- The Eagles earn their seventh season sweep. Edgewood College has now completed a season sweep over NACC schools - Dominican University, Lakeland University, Concordia Chicago, Alverno College, MSOE, Rockford University, and Concordia Wisconsin.
THE OPPOSITION
- Emily Hafemann led the Falcons offense with 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. Kaitlyn Foster and Camryn Szolyga also scored in double-figures, notching 12 and 11 points respectively.
- Szolyga led Concordia Wisconsin with seven boards, while Clara Chambers added six.
