Balanced Eagles roll past Regents for 21st victory

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Eagles earned their sixth NACC season sweep with an 82-38 win over Rockford University on Saturday. Balanced shooting and strong defense was the name of the game on Saturday, as the Eagles defense held the Regents to single digit scoring in the first two periods The win was the eighth straight for the Eagles, as Emma Klein and Diamond Pikulyk scored in double-figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (21-2, 16-2 NACC) got off to a quick 22-9 lead through the first period and never looked back, taking a 44 point lead with three minutes left in the fourth period.

- In the first period, the Eagles connected on 8-of-16 from the floor, and an impressive 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

- The Eagles continued to roll in the second period, notching a 52.94 shooting percentage (9-of-17) and holding Rockford University (3-21, 1-18 NACC) to just nine points and a 22.22 shooting percentage. Edgewood College headed into the locker room with a solid 26 point lead off a 22-9 second period effort.

- The third period began with a 17-3 Eagles run, quickly pushing their lead to 40. Despite six straight points from the Regents in the final minutes of the third period, the Eagles held on to a 62-27 advantage heading into the final ten minutes of action.

- Through the final 10 minutes of action the Eagles never let up, the combination of Delaney Wilhelm, Brooke Lonigro, Mady Pahl, Sydney Ignoffo, and Annika Lundgren notched another 20 points and solidified a big victory for the Eagles.

- Offense never let up for Edgewood College. The Eagles shot well from long, connecting on 11-of-29 (37.9 percent). In addition, 40 of the Eagles 82 points came in the paint.

- Klein and Pikulyk led the Eagles offense, both notching 12 points. Pikulyk connected on 4-of-6 from the floor through just 14 minutes of action, while Klein connected on 2-of-3 from long and 5-of-9 from the floor. The freshman added five rebounds in the victory. Bria Lemirande shot the three ball well, shooting 75 percent from beyond the arc, accounting for all nine of her points.

- Bria Lemirande led the Eagles in boards, collecting a team-high nine and adding five assists on the afternoon. Delaney Wilhelm pulled down six boards through just 13 minutes of action.

- In the victory, every Edgewood College player saw time on the floor. An impressive 13 Eagles contributed to the scoring effort and 12 different players notched an assist on the afternoon. In addition, 46 of the 82 points came off the bench.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- For the second time in program history, the Eagles have reached 21 wins in a season. The Eagles now tie the 2004-05 squad for the program record for wins in a season.


THE OPPOSITION
- Neve Yerk led the Regents offense with 17 points. Yerk connected on 6-of-12 from the floor and pulled down five rebounds.

- Emily Cox scored in double-figures, notching 10 points. Linzy Keller added 5 rebounds.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will host Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday. Action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
