Eagles battle Lawrence in Thursday Matinee

MIDDLETON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Tennis team welcomed Lawrence University to Hitters Sportsplex for its 2020 home opener on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles and Vikings had several closely contested matches, with Lawrence gaining the 6-3 win on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Caden Nelson had a strong home debut for the Eagles as the freshmen picked up wins at both No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. He started his day by partnering with Tommy Ebben for an 8-5 No. 2 doubles victory.

- Lawrence gained wins in the other two doubles matches, the No. 1 bout going to a tiebreaker with the Vikings escaping 8-7 (8-6). The Eagles No. 1 team consisted of Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Jackson Venske.

- In singles play, Conner Dugan picked up a point right away for the Eagles, tying the match at 2-2. Dugan needed a third-set tiebreaker to gain his win, posting a 6-0, 2-6, 10-7 win.

- Nelson gained the other singles win for the Eagles. He netted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will play both Carthage College and UW-La Crosse in Janesville on Saturday. The Eagles first match of the day is set for 9:30 a.m. against Carthage, while the UW-La Crosse match will take place at 3 p.m. Both will be played at Premier Tennis & Fitness.
