CHICAGO – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball went on the road to Illinois Tech Saturday afternoon for a league road matchup. In what ended up being a game of runs, Illinois Tech ultimately had one more run in them, downing the Eagles, 77-70.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois Tech (7-12, 5-9) NACC made the first big run of the game, a 16-1 stretch out of the gates over the first six-plus minutes to put the Eagles in an early hole. Edgewood College would respond with the next 10 points, that was part of a larger 17-4 run to make the score 20-8 in favor of Illinois Tech.
- Despite the early deficit, Edgewood College (6-13, 5-9 NACC) took the lead at one point in the opening half, going up 31-30 with 1:28 remaining before the break. That is when Illinois Tech would go on its second big run of the afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks scored the next 14 points, six of those coming before halftime, and the first eight out of the break to go up 44-31 with 14:34 left in the contest.
- After the teams traded free throws, it was the Eagles turn to get on a roll.
Caleb Holzman scored five-straight points to spark a 10-0 Eagles spurt, which was capped off by a
Max Fernholz 3-point make. The 10-0 stretch made the score 46-43 in favor of Illinois Tech with 11:05 remaining.
- The Eagles would get within two at 48-46 before Illinois Tech started to put things away with a 9-0 stretch, going up 11 points. The lead would hover around double-digits for a good stretch, before Edgewood College got within four after a pair of
Jacob Miller free throws with 1:55 left. That would be as close as it would get the rest of the way, with the Scarlet Hawks ultimately gaining a 77-70 win.

Jake Negus had an outstanding all-around game for Edgewood College leading the team in points (24), rebounds (8), and assists (8). Negus got his points on just 13 shot attempts, finishing 9-for-13 from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Holzman added a career-best 16 points for the Eagles, while also blocking a pair of shots.
THE OPPOSITION
- The Scarlet Hawks had three players finish in double figures on Saturday, led by Ahmad Muhammad's 25-point effort. Muhammed was 8-for-16 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
- Max Hisatake had a double-double for Illinois Tech with 14 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. Miles Curry added 19 points, shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range.

- Edgewood College will play the last of its current four-game road swing at Dominican University on Tuesday night. The Eagles and Stars are set for a 7 p.m. start.
