Eagles sweep Inferno behind efficient shooting

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team closed out a three-game homestand with a 75-54 win over Alverno College. The Eagles sweep of the Inferno saw strong defense and three players scoring in double-figures. The victory marks 15 wins on the season, the most wins for the Eagles since the 2013-14 season, and the most under head coach Chaia Huff.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Diamond Pikulyk led the three Eagles players in double-figures with a game-high 15 points. Pikulyk came off the bench for Edgewood College and connected on 7-of-11 from the floor. Joining Pikulyk in double figures was Alyssa Lemirande (13) and Bria Lemirande (10).

- Edgewood College (15-2, 10-2 NACC) ended the first period with a 25-12 lead over Alverno College (3-14, 3-9 NACC) and held onto a 14-point (44-30) lead at halftime. In the first period, Edgewood College shot a whopping 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the floor and 60 percent (3-5) from beyond the arc.

- The Eagles defense was dominant in the third period, holding the Inferno to just two points and 0 percent shooting (0-of-13) from the floor. Offensively, the Eagles notched 21 points and extended their lead to 33 points heading into the final period.

- Edgewood College would lead by a game-best 34 points with 8:05 remaining in the contest before posting the 21-point victory.

- Bria Lemirande led the Eagles in boards with seven, while Mia Edwards collected six. The Eagles recorded 44 rebounds compared to just 28 by the Inferno.

- Brooke Lonigro, Bria Lemirande, and Emma Klein each spread the ball well for the Eagles, all three recording four assists.



THE OPPOSITION
- Alicia Hornbuckle led the Inferno offense with 20 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the floor. Eniya Madden and Keeshya Bellows also scored in double-figures, collecting 15 and 12 respectively.

- Bellows notched six rebounds for Alverno College, while Sara Redlin collected a team-high five assists.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles recorded their second highest shooting percentage of the season at 50.8 percent (31-61). The last time Edgewood College shot above 50 percent from the floor was on November 9th against North Central (54.3).

- The victory marks 15 wins on the season, the most under head coach Chaia Huff.
