RIVER FOREST, Ill. – With just seven NACC contests left, the Edgewood College Women's Basketball team earned their 16th victory of the season in a 73-59 win over Concordia Chicago. The Eagles continued their hot shooting on Tuesday night, recording a 49.3 shooting percentage (34-of-69). Four Eagles finished in double-figures, led by Mia Edwards who recorded a career-high 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a back and forth affair that saw three tied scores and six lead changes. Ultimately, two layups from Parker Fetherston and a layup for Riley Larson gave Edgewood College (16-2, 11-2 NACC) a five-point lead going into the second period.
- With 6:57 remaining in the second period, the Eagles took their first double-digit lead (10 points) of the contest off a layup from Bria Lemirande. Despite strong shooting from Concordia Chicago (5-13, 4-9 NACC), the Eagles held onto an eight point lead going into the break.
- The Eagles were quite strong in the third period, holding the Cougars to just eight points. The offense went on a 10-2 run to end the third period with a 17-point lead.
- The final period was much of the same, as the Eagles took their largest lead of the contest at 24-points (71-47) with 4:54 remaining.
- Concordia Chicago saw success early from beyond the arc, connecting on five of eleven from long through the first two periods.
- Edwards led the four Eagles players in double-figures with a career-best 15 points. Joining Edwards in double figures was Bria Lemirande (13), Lexi Walter (11), and Alyssa Lemirande (10).
- Bria Lemirande collected a career-best 14 boards. Most impressively, the sophomore pulled down six offensive rebounds. Walter added eight rebounds in the victory.
- The Eagles scored most of their points from short range, collecting 64 of their 73 points in the paint. In addition, Edgewood College collected 53 rebounds in comparison to just 30 by Concordia Chicago.
THE OPPOSITION
- Bailey Steinkamp led the Cougars with 16 points, connecting on two of three from beyond the arc.
- Charisma Robinson collected five rebounds, while Annika Rae and Tara Hastings weren't far behind with four boards of their own.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Two Eagles collected career-highs in the conference victory. Mia Edwards connected on seven of eight from the floor, good for a 15 point career-best. Bria Lemirande came down with a career-high 14 rebounds and notched her fourth double-double of the season.
