Eagles lock down Sabres in NACC win

MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team notched their 14th win of the season with a 69-36 win over Marian University. Despite a slow start, the Eagles speed was too much for the Sabres, as the Eagles collected 22 fast break points. The Eagles ninth conference victory came behind double-digit shooting from Alyssa Lemirande and Parker Fetherston.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a slow start, as the Eagles and Sabres were tied at 4-4 three minutes into the first period. Edgewood College (14-2, 9-2) ended the period on a 7-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from Mia Edwards.

- The Eagles started to find a rhythm in the second period, a 9-0 run early in the period, coupled with an 8-0 run to end the period gave the Eagles a 22 point lead going into the break. Parker Fetherston and Abby Shane each connected from beyond the arc, as the Eagles shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from the floor and 66.7 percent (2-of-3) from long. Strong defense from the Eagles only allowed Marian (3-12, 3-8 NACC) 5 points in each of the first two periods.

- Coming out of the break, the Sabres offense notched 17 points and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Despite a stronger offensive effort, the Sabres couldn't catch up to the Eagles and went into the final period down 23 points.

- Once again the Eagles held Marian under 10 points in the fourth period. 13 of the Eagles 19 points in the fourth period came off the bench, with Delaney Wilhelm, Sydney Ignoffo, Riley Larson, and Ashley Ortscheid making the most of their time on the court. With just 44 seconds left on the clock, Ortscheid collected her first points as an Eagle, connecting for two points on a layup.

- On the night the Eagles dominated in the paint, scoring 42 points compared to just 10 from the Sabres. In addition, Edgewood College collected 11 steals, while Marian finished with two.

- Alyssa Lemirande led the Eagles offense with 13 points (6-of-10). Fetherston wasn't far behind with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Bria Lemirande led the Eagles in boards with 11, while Diamond Pikulyk added seven of her own.

- Bria Lemirande spread the ball well for the Eagles, collecting a team-high five assists. Alyssa Lemirande, Edwards, and Brooke Lonigro each collected three assists as well.

THE OPPOSITION
- Carley Wilson, Claire Levendoski, and Morgan Johnson each finished with eight points for the Sabres. Paris Harris collected eight rebounds and notched three assists on the night.
